Wedding Ring

"Are you tied to the idea of a wedding band?" - Peter, my Fiancé by Vanessa Larkey

If there's one thing you should know about Peter it's that he's incredibly smart, inventive, and wildly creative. Meanwhile, Leftorium over here eked my way through grade 11 math, and my penmanship has been described as 'randsom note-y'. Yeah, I'm jealous.

Anyway! Given Peter's proclivities, I was intrigued by his question and took the bait. If not a wedding band, then what?

"I was thinking about making you a wedding necklace."

For those of you scratching your heads right now, this isn't coming out of left (heh) field. Peter's made me jewelry before, and it's wicked cool.

Some of Peter's finest work in mediocre lighting. The 'key' is for Larkey, and the pig is for Hamilton. Together we become 'Hamkey'. The camera represents my career (I'm a television producer). What a swell and talented guy, amiright?

His concern about a wedding band? My engagement ring isn't part of a set, and the band would look clunky. Also, we're down to create our own traditions, and this wedding necklace could be a part of that.

So am I DTWN (that's down to wedding necklace)? I don't know. While I like to think that I'm a modern woman throwing old, semi-patriarchal traditions to the wind, I do like the idea of a wedding band. There's something charming and romantic to its simplicity and meaning. BUUUT, how many people can say their mate made them a piece of jewelry that symbolizes their union? Obviously I don't need to decide right now, but it's definitely in the back of my mind (along with when am I going to buy a dress, wedding photos, and wedding desert plating.)
